“Republicans had already made it clear that they were going to be targeting this seat … because of the corruption issues in the Democratic Party. ... It would be very good for us to have someone who took the corruption issue off the table.”
Hoffman is what Illinoisans deserve -- and should expect -- in a United States senator. He's an incorruptible man who tells truth to power, and his commitment to open and honest government is unquestioned.
From U.S. Senate staffer to federal prosecutor to political reformer — place him head and shoulders above the field in this race. For Democrats voting in the Feb. 2 primary, we believe Hoffman represents the best chance to fend off what promises to be a strong GOP effort to retake this Senate seat in the fall
Mr. Hoffman represents a clean break with the political practices that brought national disgrace to Illinois. He has no ties to the old Democratic machine or the corrupt regime of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Hoffman already has done a lot to clean up Chicago. He deserves to take his unique skill set to the national level. David Hoffman gets our endorsement for senator in the Democratic primary.
Illinois Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias (D) held a press conference to discuss his family’s banking problems, but his refusal to answer a question whether he held responsibility for the bank’s struggles led to a tough AP story today:
Giannoulias' opponents said he is ducking responsibility for his role in the bank's problems. "People are sick of politicians, like Mr. Giannoulias, who are not honest about their own conduct and don't want to be held accountable," said Hoffman campaign manager Michael Powell.
Here’s a story that Illinois Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias (D) didn’t want coming out less than a week before next Tuesday’s primary. The Crain’s piece reports that Giannoulias’s family bank, Broadway Bank, is in such rough financial shape that it’s facing a new series of regulations and demands that it overhaul its lending practices.
The winner of the Illinois primary for U.S. Senate, specifically for Democrats, will forecast the mood of the general election cycle in the Windy City. Especially after the recent Senate seat loss for Democrats in Massachussets and the bleak outlook for Democrats in many seats across the U.S., the noise in Illinois tomorrow is worth listening to.
"People are sick of politicians, like Mr. Giannoulias, who are not honest about their own conduct and don't want to be held accountable," said Hoffman campaign manager Michael Powell.
