Hoffman Calls on Giannoulias to Disclose Campaign Funders
Chicago, January 26, 2010 - David Hoffman, Democratic candidate for United States Senate is calling on Alexi Giannoulias to disclose the sources of his fourth quarter campaign contributions. As was reported today, Giannoulias has chosen to delay disclosing donors until January 31 - information that will not be available to the public until after the February 2 primary.
"He owes it to the people of Illinois to disclose every donor to his campaign before they cast their ballot, anything less is unacceptable," said Michael Powell, Campaign Manager, Hoffman for Illinois. "Alexi Giannoulias talks about transparency, misleads the voters about how transparent he is, and then once again shows his complete lack of transparency and his disdain for voters."
"Alexi Giannoulias continues to demonstrate a complete lack of accountability, he refuses to disclose who is contributing to him, refuses to accept responsibility for his mismanagement of the Bright Start Fund, and refuses to answer questions about his job performance at Broadway Bank."
Giannoulias skirted his self-imposed prohibition against taking money from banks while serving as treasurer by accepting thousands of dollars in contributions from bank employees and continues to split hairs on his pledge regarding lobbyist and Political Action Committee (PAC) money by continuing to accept contributions from state lobbyists and some PACs .
"The question is what is Mr. Giannoulias hiding? He has a history of deception regarding his job performance and pledges of transparency, and he needs to come clean before February 2," said Powell.
